Your primary aim is the vision you hold for yourself and your salon to create the lifestyle that you desire. This means that you not only have tangible goals but intangible ones as well including emotional, mental, spiritual and physical well being. After all, what good is getting "there" if you aren't able to enjoy it when you arrive?
One person's primary aim can be very different from another's but the common thread is knowing how your business can be the vehicle that takes you to the life you want to create. For example; a salon business for one person may be the way they stay connected to the industry growing their skills as a technician, educator and salon leader while another person may have chosen to own a salon as a the money maker that allows them to enjoy a quality of life with their family and friends. Whatever the primary aim, it is important to be developing the qualities, characteristics and skills consistently that will make it a reality. Here are some things you can do to keep you on track:
Be with like-minded people who are also moving in the direction that you are going. If you are wanting to be an absent salon owner, find a group of salon owners who are already living the life you desire and can help you achieve it. You know the saying, "birds of a feather flock together".
Invest in yourself by finding a coach or mentor that can keep you focused. Whether it's a life coach, business coach, spiritual advisor or therapist, find the person who will give you the direction and strategy to keep you moving forward in a purposeful direction. Sometimes people skip this step because they feel it is not tangible and therefore has no value. Not so. In fact it is the opposite. The more you value and make your own growth a priority the more available you are to help others.
Get the skill set required to move you towards your primary aim. To grow means you will need to learn and educating oneself is how you invest in your future. Your business is the avenue that will help you reach your primary aim. Wherever you find yourself today in the business know what it will take to get you moving in the direction of your primary aim. Then be determined and relentless in gaining the skills to get you there.
Build an inventory list of every step you have taken and celebrate your successes and accomplishments. The journey is half the fun of getting there not to mention the fact that it is nice to relive the experience.
